I LOVE living in the Mitten state for many reasons. We are never more than a couple hours from a beach at any given time. We get to experience all four glorious seasons. We have lots of wide open space to explore. AND we are home to some pretty bad mama-jama products. It was wasn’t easy but I chose 4 of my fave products made right here in the Mitten state to share with you in our first ever Mitten State Product Round Up.
Happy Girl Granola
Happy Girl Granola is handmade in small batches in Flint, Michigan and I absolutely love that ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible. Things that my family (yes- it’s kids and hubby approved!) love about this pantry staple are:
- The flavors! Each has our own favorite- the kids love Maple Walnut Chocolate Chip, hubby always reaches for Cherry Almond and my new favorite is Blueberry Almond. I am not a huge blueberry fan so I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy dried blueberries- but it’s safe to say I am addicted to this stuff.
- The consistency- Happy Girl Granola is not sticky like many granolas can tend to be and it has the perfect crunch!
- The versitility- Mostly we like to top our favorite vanilla yogurt with some Happy Girl for breakfast or a snack. But more and more I am finding myself eating it by the handfuls for a quick fix to tide me over until meal time.
- The ingredients- All of Happy Girl’s dried fruit flavors are naturally vegan. When I read the ingredients, I now what they are- there is no guessing about what Happy Girl puts in their granola.

JK’s Farmhouse Cider
Small batch, organic hard cider made on the Flushing, Michigan farm since the 1850’s. The original JK ‘S Scrumpy is my favorite- containing nothing but organic fresh apple juice and yeast- I don’t have to worry about preservatives or artificial ingredients touching my lips with this crisp, refreshing hard cider. The original Scrumpy hard cider is also accompanied by JK’s Northern Neighbor– made from Michigan apples and a unique Canadian prairie apple, the Saskatoon, JK’s The Pair Perry– an unfiltered Perry style cider made up of organic apples and organic pears, JK’s Winterruption- a winter seasonal cider lightly spiced with cinnamon, vanilla and maple syrup and JK’s Farmhouse Summer- a summer seasonal with hints of orange, raisin and corriander. You really can’t go wrong with whatever flavor of JK Farmhouse Cider that you choose, they are all unique and all delicious- another bonus? All of their hard ciders are gluten free.
As rich it is in cider making history, JK Farmhouse Cider never ceases to amaze me with their creativity. One of their newest products on the market (and my hands down favorite) is JK’s Haybaler Switchel. Their switchel is a non-alcoholic, organic blend of apple cider vinegar, Michigan spring water, honey and fresh ginger. Originally termed as a thirst quencher for hard working farmers, switchel is now often found as a mix in for cocktails, or drank alone for its health benefits or for electrolyte replacement. My favorite way to drink JK’S Haybaler Switchel is to take 2-3 shots right out of the bottle (make sure you cork it in between uses for freshness!) throughout the day for sustained energy as I go through my day.

Lockhart’s Authentic Grooming Co.
Lockhart’s Authentic Grooming Co. offers a collection of microbrewed, Michigan made hair products such as pomades, shave creams, pre and after shave oil’s, aftershave balms, mustache wax and bead oil. When my hubby decided to grow out his beard (yay) we immediately started looking for quality beard products, primarily to alleviate any of the nasty coarse hair syndrome that comes along with the wonderful beard- if I had to live with this thing, it better look good. That (and my love of supporting Michigan made products) is how we found Lockhart’s. Lockhart’s beard oils are meant to hydrate the skin under the beard and alleviate any dry skin, itching or irritation- and also helps soften the coarse strands of facial hair. Immediately when opening the Sandalwood Citrus scent, I fell in love with the light, clean smell which wasn’t at all overpowering. Hubby’s beard is softer and overall just looks better- score. And their hair groom isn’t just for hair (won’t lie, I used a dab for a few of my annoying fly-aways one day- perfection.). Lockhart’s says that the product was initially created with beards and facial hairs in mind as a sort of conditioner for the hair- they suggest putting a small amount in before bed so that you aren’t going out into public with a shiny beard. With the help of Lockhart’s hubby’s beard is looking (and smelling!) good- and that makes me one happy lady.
